Inter, Inzaghi’s calendar: the matches that will decide the future

The position of the Nerazzurri coach will be at risk if a turning point does not arrive by the start of the World Cup in Qatar: the calendar will therefore have a role in the future of the coach, between the championship and the Champions League.

A segment, no longer a straight line. From point A to point B, the stretch in which Simone Inzaghi plays a lot – if not all – is now clear: from 1 October to 13 November, from Rome to Atalanta, from the end of the break for the Nations League to start of the World Cup in Qatar. From Mourinho to Gasperini, two ex who perfectly represent the possible destinies of an Inter coach: the idolized one on one side and the “hated” one on the other. Who does he want to be, Simone? Much will depend on his performance in the twelve games leading up to the World Cup.

FIRST CONCLUSIONS

There is no mention of exemption now, but the change is required within the long winter break. At the kick-off of Qatar-Ecuador, at 5 pm on Sunday 20 November, 15 league matches have already been played and the Champions League round will be concluded. A total of 21 challenges that represent a sufficient sample to take stock, to understand if the fogs of the beginning of the season are only temporary falls and if Inzaghi still has the situation in hand. Of course, the European path – at least that in the Champions League – could already be compromised, but the iron group certainly does not help. The next matches, in this sense, will be decisive.

START AND END TOSTI

The first two European days have made it clear that, in all likelihood, Inter will play the passage to the round of 16 against Barcelona. No, for Inzaghi there is no breathing space: after the break, Roma and the Catalans will arrive at San Siro, before a double away match against Sassuolo and at Camp Nou. The two challenges against Xavi’s men can be shocking, but also complicate things. In short, the first four appointments after the break are anything but simple to deal with: it is only a third of the way from now to the World Cup, but a series of negative results would risk complicating the sequel, throwing the team and fans into despair. Following will be Salernitana at home and Fiorentina away, with six days between matches before resuming the pace of three matches a week: Viktoria Plzen and Sampdoria at San Siro, Bayern and Juventus away, Bologna at Meazza and Atalanta in Bergamo. Especially the beginning and the end will be on fire. From point A to point B there are infinite points, innumerable pitfalls: Inzaghi and Inter play everything.
