Inter, Inzaghi after Benfica: the coach’s words

The Inter coach after the 3-3 draw in the Champions League with Benfica: “We talked at half-time, if that post had been a goal it would have been a memorable match”

Perhaps Simone Inzaghi had taken the draw into account, but the proceedings undoubtedly did not. Inter drew 3-3 at Benfica on the penultimate day of the Champions League group stage, recovering from a terrible hat-trick from former player Joao Mario with a second half of great character which certainly leaves positive consequences for the coach: ” I have twenty starters, I know I can count on everyone. It was easy to change 4 or 5, but maybe I should have changed more and it wasn’t the fault of the individuals. At half-time we talked – explains Inzaghi at the end of the match –, we made some tactical changes and returned with a different spirit. If Barella’s shot hadn’t hit the post we would have won a memorable match. We know that we will play for first place in the group against Real Sociedad, now we will have to try to recover well because on Sunday we will have a very difficult match in Naples.”

The words

The coach then continues the post-match analysis, reiterating the need for the rotations that the team is used to: “I think there was a problem with the approach, we had seen a subdued Inter and during the interval we said that an episode could change the match. I have to find space for everyone, I have 20 starters and not just eleven. At the start we all did badly – including myself – and not just a few players. Joao Mario? Surely when he was on the bench in the first leg I was happy. a player who had also bothered us in the past: he was very good, but we should have done better in the first half.”
