Inter: Dimarco one step away from renewal, top salary

The first summit with Roc Nation was positive. New meeting soon

Davide Stoppini

Here we are, it’s just a matter of days: Federico Dimarco is one step away from a renewal with Inter. The Nerazzurri club has found a way to protect its exterior. It is the result of the meeting that took place in the last few days between the managers and Roc Nation, the agency that represents the national team player. The parties are close to an agreement, the dialogues have been fruitful. So much so that the player should soon sign an extension and adjustment: the deadline will move from the current 2026 to 2028, but what matters most is that the salary will increase from 1.8 million net to 4 million.

recognition

For the current season, in truth, the starting point will be lower, around 3.5 million. Then from 2024-25 the fixed base quota will reach 4, excluding bonuses. It’s an important leap forward. And it is yet another demonstration of the change in status of the winger, now considered by Inter as one of the top players in the squad. Ultimately, the proof is also in the already existing long term: the new agreement was certainly not a need linked to the times, but more than anything else there was the company’s desire (and obviously that of the player) to adapt the salary to the level of performance achieved. Not everything has been defined yet, but we are in the final stages. However important, of course: this is why a new summit between Inter and Roc Nation will be necessary. But it is unimaginable that at this point the negotiation will stall and reach a stalemate. Also because the premises were more than positive. And, as explained, there was no time urgency pressing in one direction rather than another. Dimarco and Inter want each other and want each other happy. And so it will be.

margins

Inter is currently paying attention to the renewal issue. We talk about Mkhitaryan – that is a time emergency – in the next piece. The CEO Marotta and sporting director Ausilio have room for maneuver in this direction. Last season’s salary – 132 million gross, excluding the technical staff – was reduced by around 12%. There is room to redeploy some of those resources to adapt some old agreements. It is also a way of recognizing the extraordinary progress made in the Champions League by the players who were there last season. Dimarco is a reference for this Inter. A certain Roberto Carlos recently said of him: “He is one of the best left backs in the world.” And it is one of the sources of play most exploited by Inzaghi’s team. His growth has been exponential, his salary varies accordingly. And not even the arrival of Carlos Augusto has put his ownership in doubt, because the blue knows how to guarantee with Bastoni and Mkhitaryan, on the centre-left, a sort of cage in which almost all his opponents end up trapped.

then the others

Dimarco is the starter of what will also happen with Dumfries and, above all, Lautaro. Neither for the Dutchman (2025) nor for the captain (2026) the issue is the deadline, but rather the salary. Inter wants to continue on this path, while respecting the balance of the dressing room. Dumfries deserves credit for getting back on its feet after a very negative second half of last season. Lautaro, on the other hand, is destined to become by far the highest paid player in the team and at least on par with the other top players in Serie A. Everything is in his time. This is that of Dimarco, who already has the pen in his hand to sign until 2028. And the idea that he is a footballer who grew up at home only strengthens the club’s desire to keep him in Milan. Because, to put it as the Nerazzurri managers think, if technical quality rhymes with an Italian passport, so much the better for everyone.
