The ball for Romelu Lukaku’s header against Lyon was “only” to be pushed into the net. A ball with the tachometer with a lot of name and surname: Federico Dimarco. Head high, left polite and understanding with the Belgian already at a very good point. Nine minutes later, the 24-year-old from Milan repeated himself in search of Lautaro Martinez: once again a perfect trajectory, even if the Argentine then failed to pierce the OL goalkeeper.

Two flashes from highlights, which, however, are part of a generally very convincing performance, as the best in the field. On the other hand, it is no secret that Dimarco’s southpaw has few equals in Italy, even in set pieces. When he is advanced in midfield as in Cesena obviously the opportunities to show offensively increase, but in general the winger is one of Simone Inzaghi’s players who is most stealing the eye in the first seasonal releases. On paper he is not part of the owners and it is also a condition that the player accepts serenely, but if he were to confirm himself so inspired even later …

One of the characteristics for which Dimarco has always been appreciated by his coaches is certainly the ability to juggle multiple roles, but his qualities certainly cannot be reduced to a concept of adaptability. In any case, the coach sees him mainly as a left arm in defense, called into question in place of one of the owners. There he can put his left-handed at the service of the team and cover a position with few alternatives in the squad, while sacrificing part of his offensive potential. In Inzaghi’s game of couples, Federico stands in brackets under the name of Alessandro Bastoni, in short. Secondly, perhaps during the race or in particular situations, however, that slot from the fifth of the midfield on the left can return to his competence as happened against Lyon. With the facts Dimarco is raising his hand, applying to have space (and therefore minutes) on the field. He who knows that the tandem with Lukaku cannot be replicated even in official matches: the coach certainly would not disdain the supply of the 24-year-old for his bomber.
