Inter, Correa’s special derby: hunting for the first goal and favorable tradition

Another round, another chance for Joaquin Correa. Inzaghi’s choice to insist on the turnover translates into a new opportunity for Tucu, called to play their part in that stadium which until recently was their home and against their quintessential opponent during three seasons, namely Roma. The “game of couples” launched by the Nerazzurri coach in the last month, with a rigid alternation of interpreters between cups and championship, will be worth Correa’s sixth game as a starter in the last eleven outings, in the hope of breaking a fast from the goal which (except the European seal against Benfica) has even lasted since 29 October, the day of the goal with which he contributed to the 3-0 home win over Sampdoria.

The goal for Tucu has become an urgent need, it’s useless to go around it. It is due to the scarce tally collected so far (just four goals and three assists) and above all because the rest of the department has entered a period of grace seasoned with goals in clusters. If Tucu aims to leave their mark and redeem a two-year Nerazzurri period so far below expectations, the moment is propitious and, to be honest, there couldn’t be a better occasion. Because for the Argentine it will be like a derby, the one he experienced six times in his Lazio days (two as a spectator) under the orders of today’s coach, Simone Inzaghi, with whom he only met a knockout in the first derby played: a 3 -1 remedied despite the entry in the 53rd minute for Luis Aberto. After that first slide, however, only satisfactions against the giallorossi except for the defeat in the last derby before the transfer to Milan, however lived entirely from the bench.

On the other hand, the Giallorossi have faced three challenges since he wore the Nerazzurri, with three victories to which Tucu contributed very little: 59′ without infamy and without praise in the first clash at the Olimpico which finished 3-0, 27′ equally insipid in the reply at San Siro (with success for 3-1), and zero minutes (due to injury) in the dry challenge of the quarter-finals of the Italian cup won 2-0. Beyond the favorable tradition, the truth is that in six matches played against the Giallorossi Tucu really shone only in one circumstance, in its second Capitoline derby dated 2 March 2019, when it drove the rival defense crazy for 78′ by touching three times the goal and embroidering two decisive assists: in the 12th minute (for Caicedo) and in the 61st minute (for Immobile), before leaving the field to the applause of the audience. The goal for Tucu is to relive such a day, to lend a hand to Inter and redeem himself in the eyes of a fan base that has so far seen him shine too rarely.
