Local residents of Elzenplein have not yet recovered from the shock. Last night a house completely burned down on the square in Haarlem-Noord. The resident of the house could be saved, according to a neighbor because she had an angel on her shoulder.
The facade has been blackened by smoke damage and the fire brigade has attached wooden plates to the windows. The adjacent home of Ivy Eind also suffered a lot of damage, mainly due to smoke. “Everything is black inside,” she says. “My house has also been declared uninhabitable. I have to sleep elsewhere in the near future.”
The fire started around 3 a.m. and a woman was in the home. According to neighbor Eind, the resident could be saved by an angel.
Angel on shoulder
“I heard from my neighbor’s son that she had woken up during the night because she was not feeling well. When she came downstairs to take paracetamol, she discovered the fire. Her couch was already on fire. She had the angel of her previously deceased husband on her shoulder. If she hadn’t woken up to take paracetamol, she probably wouldn’t have been able to tell.”
The fire brigade arrived with several vehicles to extinguish the house fire. Residents speak of a large fire with flames spreading. The cause of the fire is not yet known, according to the fire service. Still, according to neighbor Eind, the resident had been complaining for some time about a rattling fan in the living room, which also produced sparks.

“She had already approached the housing association twice. They would come by next Tuesday, but that is no longer necessary,” says Eind.
notifications
Housing association Ymere says it has indeed received reports about a fan, but knows nothing about sparks.
“A report was made three times. The first time the control panel no longer communicated with the fan. We have resolved that. After the second report, the appointment was canceled by the resident,” says a spokesperson for Ymere.
The latest report is more recent and would be about ‘a noisy fan’. According to the housing association, an appointment was scheduled for this tomorrow.
Research
Ymere does not want to speculate about whether the fan has anything to do with the fire. “There are rumors going around, but we are waiting for the investigations first,” said the housing association. In addition to the investigation by the fire service, Ymere will also conduct an investigation into the cause of the fire.
The resident has since been placed with family. She did not have to go to the hospital for an examination. And Ivy Eind will also have to look for temporary shelter in the near future. “Hopefully my house will be habitable again soon,” says Eind.
