A bit of a shock this afternoon for eleven-year-old Tycho. It is the young Huizer’s birthday and he received a metal detector as a gift. He immediately ran to the city park to test the device. He was right, but it wasn’t the treasury the birthday boy was hoping for. It looked like a bomb and even the police had to be involved.
“He immediately started beeping loudly,” Tycho tells NH Nieuws enthusiastically. Between the hustle and bustle of his birthday, he set aside some time to talk about his find. The whole family was in the park and helped with the excavation. Soon a ‘metallic’ thing surfaced.
“We thought there was nothing wrong,” says Kim, Tycho’s mother. “We have been happy for a long time that the detector at least worked.” But once the object surfaced, some alarm bells started ringing here and there. It looked like some sort of rusty tube with a knob on it, according to Tycho. “But Grandpa thought it might be a bomb.”
Park dropped off
“Then we called the police after all,” Kim said. Kim herself was not very impressed by the so-called bomb, she says. But the police immediately took it seriously.
Everyone had to keep their distance and part of the park was closed. “Then I also got a little scared,” Tycho admits bravely.

False alarm
A bomb expert from the police came and quickly saw that it was not a bomb. What Tycho did find is still under investigation.
“If they know what it is, I hope I can keep it,” Tycho hopes. For now, the metal detector is put away again, because there is still a bouncy castle and a popcorn machine waiting for the birthday boy.
Tomorrow Tycho will go on a quest again. “I’m going to comb the entire park here,” he says ambitiously. “And then I hope for a pot of gold.”
