Meta-owned social media service Instagram can now comment with short gif animations. The animated answer can be added to both publications and reels.
Gif animations are mostly short silent video clips similar to memes, i.e. internet phenomena. Gif animations could previously be used in conversations between users.
You can add an animated answer or comment by clicking the commenting icon that looks like a speech bubble in the publication. After that, by clicking on the GIF icon found on the right side of your comment field, you will see a gif animation window where you can search for the animation related to the topic you want.
The animation bank is operated by Giphy. Meta bought the service in 2020, but The British authorities demanded Meta to sell its ownership of Giphy last year. The reason is ambiguities about data security and how user data ends up with advertisers.
