Instagram post for late father Abi

More than a month after a last posting in the social networks, there is a sign of life from Gil Ofarim, who was last in hiding, today (May 4th).

The singer commemorates his father Abi Ofarim on Instagram and Facebook. The Israeli producer and musician, who was very popular in Germany from the 1960s (also as part of the duo Esther & Abi Ofarim), died exactly four years ago to the day. Abi Ofarim succumbed to a long, serious illness on May 4, 2018 in his apartment in Munich-Schwabing. He was buried in the New Israelite Cemetery in Munich-Freimann.

“Dad… you’re missing, you’re missing, you’re missing!…”, his 39-year-old son writes on Instagram and reminds him of his father.

ROLLING STONE previously reported:

In the course of the defamation charges against Gil Ofarim, the singer had closed his social media channels – perhaps because social network users flooded his profiles with hate comments. Ofarim recently reactivated his profiles on Facebook and Instagram. The most recent post is his one-and-a-half-minute eulogy for the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, recorded about a week ago. “Today is a difficult day for the rock world,” says Ofarim. He immediately links this to advertising for the show “Playlist of my Life”, a show in which he appeared – and which, as he says with a sigh, was recorded in Leipzig on October 4, 2021. “My humble self will come at 12.40 a.m.”. It is unclear whether and how his social media profiles are moderated or managed. In any case, the mostly positive comments can be read, only a few that accuse the musician of advertising his own TV appearances at the expense of a deceased person.

Ofarim speaks of the recording, which took place on a day that had serious consequences for him: that evening he wanted to check in at the Westin Hotel in Leipzig and then recorded his video in which he accused a hotel employee of anti-Semitism. Ofarim is accused of defamation and faces a trial.
