Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian’s criticism of Instagram’s new design has reached the top executive of the social network. In a video on his personal accounts, Adam Mosseri emphasizes that it is a test for now, but also admits that it is “not good yet”.
The complaints from Jenner, Kardashian, and other lesser-known users revolve around a test being rolled out to “a percentage of users.” In addition, photos and videos take up the entire screen, audio is automatically turned on and more posts are shown from people you don’t follow. “Stop trying to be TikTok,” Jenner and Kardashian said.
Mosseri says in his video that he has been informed that there are many concerns about the test. He admits that the test is “not good yet” and that there is still work to be done before the update is rolled out to all Instagram users.
The Instagram boss also emphasizes that the social network will certainly focus more on videos, although posting photos will always remain possible. “I believe that over time, more and more aspects of Instagram will become video,” says Mosseri.
Finally, he talks about the videos and photos you see on Instagram from accounts you don’t follow. Mosseri says the goal is to help you discover more “new and interesting things” through those ‘suggested posts’. He also points out that you can snooze such messages for 30 days or use the chronological feed.
Mosseri did not respond directly that Jenner and Kardashian shared a call asking to see more photos of friends.
Our editors asked Instagram parent company Meta on Tuesday for a response to Jenner and Kardashian’s frustrations. In an email, spokeswoman Kim Van Bokhoven refers to Mosseri’s video. The company declined to comment on the test.
