«Pronto? I am Montalbano!». Up tonight Rai 1 one of the most beloved TV characters of the last twenty-plus years returns. It goes on air at 9.30pm Inspector Montalbanowith the episode entitled Save beloved, my Livia. Released in 2020, it is the first of three episodes directed by Luca Zingaretti after the death of the historic director, Alberto Sironi.

New investigations for Salvo Montalbano (Luca Zingaretti). In the municipal archive of Vigata – the fictional Sicilian town in which the series based on Andrea Camilleri’s novels is set – a girl is found dead. This is Agata Cosentino (Federica De Benedittis), an archive employee, murdered with a hammer. Agata is also a dear friend of Livia Burlando (Sonia Bergamasco), the commissioner’s longtime girlfriend. The two had met in Genoa, where Cosentino had worked for a few years, before returning to her native land.
The investigations begin immediately and it turns out that she was a shy and reserved woman, apparently without enemies and very reluctant to trust others. What made solving the case even more difficult was the fact that he was there. The offices, in fact, had been closed for some time for some renovation work. And the building was frequented and accessible only by the workers of the hired company.
So, who killed Agata? Initially it was thought of a sexual assault resulting in murder. The lead, however, does not entirely convince the commissioner. When outlining the victim’s personality, Montalbano directs her suspicions towards the people close to her. And little by little an unexpected picture emerges. Behind confidentiality, the victim hid a multi-faceted personality and perhaps even a double life.
Several characters end up among the list of potential culprits, but in the end Salvo finds the right key to find the person responsibleeven if it won’t be entirely immediate. At the same time, the reckless Pasquale ((Fabio Costanzo) is caught by a night watchman stealing from a villa. Pasquale is the son of Adelina (Ketty Governali), Montalbano’s housekeeper, and the latter does everything he can to help him.

In addition to the actors already mentioned, Rosario Lisma is also part of the cast (Antonio Cannizzaro), Luciano Scarpa (Giorgio Scalia), Roberta Giarrusso (Mrs. Caruana), Katia Greco (Caterina Giunta), Giovanni Guardiano (Jacomuzzi), Rosario Minardi (Romildo Bufardeci) and Vitalba Andrea (Cristina Cosentino).
Katia Greco is not a new face in the Commissioner saga. In fact, the public has already seen her in the prequel, The young Montalbanostarring Michele Riondino. There she plays Mery, the commissioner’s girlfriend, who he left shortly before meeting Liviathe great love of his life.

Save beloved, my Livia opens the fourteenth season of the series and is the third to last episode of the entire Montalbano saga. The first, however, which bears the signature of Luca Zingaretti. The Roman actor found himself replacing Sironi after his death in 2019.
And doing so he also directed the last two episodes, titled respectively The safety net And The Catalanotti method. Although there has been talk of possible new episodes for years – Alycon’s cook And RiccardinoCamilleri’s last two novels, published shortly before and immediately after his death – at the moment the latter closes the saga. And it is no longer Sonia Bergamasco who plays Livia, but Greta Scarano.
