Inspection: Care in Dillehof Klazienaveen is insufficient on a number of points

The care provided in the Dillehof residential care center in Klazienaveen is below average on a number of points. According to the inspection report, four of the fourteen standards that the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate examined during an unannounced visit on March 29 do not (largely) comply.

Of the four standards that are below standard, two concern quality and safety within the institution of Zorggroep Tangenborgh. For example, it has been found that care providers fall short when making ‘professional considerations about the required care and support based on identified risks, wishes, needs, possibilities and limitations of the client’.

Monitoring and improving the quality and safety of care can also be improved, according to the inspectorate, which also considers the working culture within the residential care center and the guidelines for hand hygiene to be weak points. The ten other points that IGJ looked at were (largely) in order. For example, it has been established that personal care is in order and this is done by enough care providers

The Inspectorate notes that within Dillehof there is a so-called transition to working in more ‘professional teams’, which may be related to the shortcomings found. This transition requires a lot of mutual cooperation within the care location. This applies both between healthcare staff and between them and the board.

“Managing this transition requires extra attention from the board,” the inspectorate recommends, which now emphasizes that it has insufficient confidence that Tangenborgh’s current working method leads to better quality and safety of care.

Tangenborgh, with eleven locations for residential care and/or nursing home care, must show improvements within nine months on the four points that recently (largely) fell short. Inspectorate members will assess the criteria in a new, unannounced visit at one of the healthcare provider’s locations.

Zorggroep Tangenborgh says today that it cannot respond substantively to the conclusions of the inspection.
