A soft and subtle peach tone: Pantone has ‘Peach Fuzz’ as color of the year 2024 announced.
The U.S. Color Institute describes the hue as “an all-encompassing spirit that enriches consciousness, body and soul.” Why he was chosen is explained by his positive charisma, which is said to balance the lives of many people in the current “times of turmoil”.
To celebrate the color of the year, FashionUnited spoke to three trend researchers about ‘Peach Fuzz’ to find out how the warm hue will prevail in the coming year and what to expect from it.
A new color image
“I’m currently working on my trend analysis for summer 2025,” said Dutch trend researcher Christine Boland. “’Peach Fuzz’ fits in well because we are looking for beautiful, harmonious, supposedly recognizable, but still new colors.”
“Where artificial intelligence and reality as well as synthetic and natural meet, a new color image is created in which Pantone 13-1023 TCX Peach Fuzz plays an important role,” she added. “This is about colorful combinations of bright colors with such clean and soft tones.”
The peach tone is “suitable for every gender”. Bolan described it as “sunny” and “so bright, as if light were shining through.” However, it is a color “that will take some time before it is accepted by a wider audience – initially perhaps only in combination with a similarly delicate shade of pink.”
Men’s fashion is becoming more feminine
“The feminization of men’s fashion is becoming more and more evident,” said Amsterdam-based trend forecaster Edwin van den Hoek, who works in the men’s clothing textile and fashion industry. Elements, colors or fabrics that are traditionally associated with female fashion can therefore be found more and more frequently in men’s fashion. ‘Peach Fuzz’ can be found in this trend.
“For the 2024 summer collections, pastel tones are in the foreground,” says Van den Hoek. “These colors will be used in flowing materials for summer suiting, as well as technical, lightweight and sheer fabrics for outerwear and soft jerseys for shirts or polos.”
Combination with dark colors is important
“I think it’s a very beautiful color,” said Jan Agelink of the trend forecasting agency Buro Jantrendman. “The subtle tone, which lies between orange and pink, fits into the palette of sunrise and sunset colors. ‘Peach Fuzz’ brings wonder and lightness, and as the Pantone color institute also pointed out, that’s what we want [als Menschen] need.”
“At the same time we see [Anm. d. Red.: die Trendprognose-Agentur], that dark colors are of great importance, including blues and greens, which are almost diametrically opposed to ‘Peach Fuzz’. Exclusively using this bright, sunny color to recharge our energy levels feels a bit one-sided. We also need contrasting dark colors to create stability,” stressed Agelink. He assumes that people will increasingly turn to dark tones in the coming years.
According to Agelink, ‘Peach Fuzz’ is not suitable for all customers: “In the fashion and interior design industry we will primarily see the color in combination with other colors.”
Collaborations in the trend color
In collaboration with brands, Pantone has already released a number of products in the new trend color, including the sneaker from the Brazilian shoe brand Cariuma and the nail polish from the US cosmetics label Shades by Shan.
This is the 25th time that Pantone has chosen the color of the year. The bright red-pink tone ‘Viva Magenta’ was named the color of the year 2023 and purple ‘Very Peri’ carried the title of the year 2022.
