For a long time, Jong AZ seemed to end in a bloodless draw against Heracles Almelo. Nothing could be further from the truth, because the visitors and the reserves scored deep in injury time: 1-1. Even after a late red card from Mexx Meerdink it remained the same.
It was the first time that Jong AZ and Heracles Almelo played against each other. There were few big chances for either team in the opening phase. The first opportunity was for Heraclied Nikolai Laursen. Goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro turned the ball.
After 32 minutes, the Dane thought he could open the score from a free kick. Laursen hit the target, he was only in an offside position. Yusuf Barasi had another big chance before the break. He played well and shot into the side net. The same applied to opponent Lucas Schoofs. This time Owusu-Oduro was another spoilsport.

As exciting as the last phase was before the break, the start of the second half was so boring for Young AZ against the leader. The Alkmaar youngsters did not get further than a shot from Lewis Schouten and substitute Mexx Meerdink. In the counterpunch, Thomas Bruns shot just wide from a long shot.
venom
The venom was clearly in the tail. Substitute Rigino Cicilia scored the opening goal for Heracles in stoppage time. The leader therefore seemed to win after all. However, Wouter Goes made it 1-1 in the 94th minute with a header from a corner. Meerdink was sent off the field after a fight.
