The municipality of Alkmaar has earmarked almost 2 million euros extra for the construction of the energy-producing noise barrier along the ring road. The screen should finally give people living in the vicinity of Huiswaarderweg, Schagerweg and Nollenweg a good night’s sleep and will supply electricity for at least 400 households. “It’s really coming now.”
That is what relieved local residents say to NH Nieuws. Earlier this year it became clear that extra money was needed for the project due to, among other things, increased construction costs.
Residents of Alkmaar have been waiting for 15 years for measures to reduce traffic noise. Now that the additional 1.9 million has been approved by the city council tonight, construction will start in October 2023. In total, the screen costs 7.4 million.
“This is very good news. The best news of recent years: it is really getting there now!”, says Ed Diepenmaat of Belangrekenden Bewonersgroep Geluidwal (BBG) with satisfaction. “We are very pleased that the council sees the need for this screen, and that they agree to a cost increase of more than 30 percent. That is not nothing.”
