Innovative & new: Functional jackets made from coffee grounds

2.6 billion cups of coffee are drunk around the world every day, but what happens to all that coffee grounds after we use them? In order to maximize our resources and give waste a second life, Spanish fashion brand Ecoalf has now developed a new, unique yarn made from coffee grounds.

For the production of the so-called S.Café® yarn, the coffee grounds are first dried and de-oiled. The coffee powder is then converted into pellets and incorporated into plastic filaments under high pressure.

In the new Autumn/Winter 2022 collection, this innovative S.Café® yarn is used in the two 3-in-1 functional jackets Mandu (women) and Katman (men). Its upper material consists of 20 cups of coffee and around 23 recycled plastic bottles. Thanks to the use of recycled materials, each jacket reduces CO2 emissions by around 62 percent.

Both jacket models are water-repellent, breathable, offer natural protection against UV rays, absorb unpleasant odors and dry quickly. This makes them ideal for outdoor activities such as skiing or hiking.

Further information on the S.Café® yarn and its manufacturing process as well as the new functional jackets from Ecoalf are available under the us download link. We can provide you with PR samples on request.
