The skipper of the Chabeli wanted to sail backwards into the harbor of Wageningen, but this failed due to the strong current. The ship is loaded with 2200 tons of diesel oil.
The fire brigade and Rijkswaterstaat came to the scene on Friday evening to see whether they could refloat the ship and whether there were any leaks.
The bad news: it didn’t work. The good: there was no leakage. A Rotterdam shipping company will attempt to refloat the ship in daylight on Saturday. The shipping to Wageningen has been blocked by the ship and the blockage will probably continue until Saturday.
