Now it’s official: Daley Blind will join FC Bayern until the end of the season. The defender is scheduled to travel to the training camp in Doha with the German record champions on Friday.
FC Bayern has sealed its first transfer of the current transfer period. The 32-year-old Daley Blind received a contract at Säbener Straße until the summer and will wear jersey number 23 in the future.
“I can’t wait to play here,” the defender is quoted as saying on FC Bayern’s website. “We are now faced with the most important part of the season, which is about the titles – and a club like FC Bayern can win any trophy,” said the veteran.
Blind also explained why he is joining the German record champions. “The hunger for titles here at the club was a key factor in my decision. I hope I can use my experience to help the team and I’ll give my all for Bayern Munich,” said the new signing.
Munich’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic was pleased with the transfer. “Daley is a flexible defender, he can play on the left as well as inside. He has great international experience and leadership qualities. I’m sure he will help us,” said the 46-year-old.
FC Bayern reacts to Hernández injury
FC Bayern officials are reacting to the serious injury suffered by Lucas Hernández, who tore a cruciate ligament at the World Cup in Qatar, by signing the 99-time international.
With Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt, there were only two nominal top-level central defenders left. Blind now becomes number three in the hierarchy.
The defender had recently terminated his contract with Ajax Amsterdam and is therefore moving to the Isar on a free transfer.
