Injury-prone Buursema accurate in Westerkwartier derby

After a rough start on Saturday, Zuidhorn was too strong for neighbor Aduard 2000 with a score of 4-1. The victory over the Purple & Whites from the monastery village was only the first victory of the season.

The distance in points and kilometers was approximately the same prior to the always charged Westerkwartier derby. Aduard had an excellent start to the competition and held second place with ten points, while Zuidhorn found itself back in the danger zone with only four points.

Defensive disarray

The difference in the rankings was also visible on the field in the opening phase. Central defender Frank Stuitje had reported sick at Zuidhorn and whether that had anything to do with it or not, the home team had not been in good defensive shape for a long time.

The match was not even four minutes old when Aduard already managed to take advantage of it. A long throw was not cleared properly and Leon Smits was able to chest the ball in: 0-1. Shortly afterwards an almost identical scenario, but this time the ball disappeared narrowly wide of the goal.

The defensive disarray continued. In the tenth minute, a Zuidhorn defender headed against his own post, but Aduard striker Rick Kazemier failed to make it 2-0 from the rebound. After a shot by Yvar van Oosten found the fists of Zuidhorn goalie Iddo Kooistra, Zuidhorn slowly got more control over the match.

Tilt

The hosts put more and more pressure and in the last five minutes before half-time the game turned completely upside down. The tall Ruben Buursema extended a cross slightly with his head and saw his effort end up in the goal through a melee of players: 1-1. Three minutes later, Jos Schultinga turned a corner over everything and everyone at once into the far corner: 2-1.

In the second half, Zuidhorn did not relinquish control. As befits a derby, there was a lot of fighting and the football did not always end, but despite the many yellow cards handed out, it was certainly not a kicking match. The decision was finally made after about an hour of play.

Good-old Jaap Jacobs saw his header from a corner turned away by Floris Star, but the rebound was easy for Buursema: 3-1. The high pace then took its toll and this was at the expense of accuracy for both teams. In the very last minute, Corné Zuidema scored the best goal of the afternoon with a strike from distance: 4-1.

Injury prone

“We really needed this,” beamed two-time goalscorer Buursema. “Scoring twice in the derby against Aduard is of course nice. I even trained some of the guys from that team back in the day, haha. Unfortunately, I am quite prone to injuries and have not played many minutes this season, but this definitely makes me want to do more. Now to stay fit for a while, that would be very nice.”
