The explosion was at around 2:20 am in a house on Piet Paaltjensplein in the Spangen district. There was no fire, but surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution.
It is the second explosion in the area in 24 hours. On Saturday morning, an explosive was thrown through a window at a building in the adjacent Jan Luykenstraat. The building, where children are cared for on working days, was severely damaged. A local resident suggested to the AD that the perpetrators of that attack were mistaken and returned the next night.
Police are calling on witnesses and anyone who has CCTV footage of the incident to come forward.
