After the criticism of his first performance, the singer has canceled his second show. The reason for this is a leg injury.
Frank Ocean announced on Wednesday (April 19) that he would not be able to play his second show on Sunday (April 23) at the Coachella festival as planned. He had two broken bones and a sprain in his left leg, which is why a doctor advised him not to perform.
His first Coachella concert caused resentment because he entered the stage an hour late, which is why his show had to be cut and he performed songs playback. “It was messy,” Variety quotes the singer as saying. He wanted to present a different performance, which was not possible due to his injury and had to change his performance at short notice. How he sustained the injury was not discussed.
The two-time Grammy winner’s last appearance was six years ago, so there was a lot of hype in advance. After the widespread criticism of his first appearance, the Ocean Coachella fiasco is entering the second round. The 35-year-old at least announced his new album on stage, which will follow 2016’s BLONDE.
The festival in Indio, California takes place over two consecutive weekends with the same lineup. The organizer has not yet announced whether or by whom Ocean’s failure will be compensated. Other headliners are Bad Bunny and K-Pop girl group BLACKPINK, along with the likes of Gorillaz, Charli XCX and Blondie.
