ING Belgium denies having viewed email traffic of 2,000 employees | Interior

ING Belgium denies that it has given the instruction to view the email traffic of some 2,000 employees. There has also been no analysis of this e-mail traffic, the spokeswoman responds to accusations from the socialist employees’ union BBTK, which decided to file a fourfold criminal complaint against the bank and some board members.

“The allegations that certain media write are absolutely false,” it says in a press release. “We attach great importance to the privacy of our employees.”

The newspapers ‘De Tijd’ and ‘L’Echo’ quoted a trade unionist from BBTK/Setca as claiming that, in the wake of the dismissal of his chief representative at the bank, ING’s internal inspection service, at the explicit request of the CEO and HR manager, director investigated the email traffic of approximately 2,000 employees of the bank.

The trade unionist announced to ‘De Tijd’ and ‘L’Echo’ that he would file a criminal complaint with the labor auditor in Brussels. ING Belgium is surprised. The bank had to hear about this through the press and has not yet received anything about this, says the spokeswoman. Nevertheless, the management is in regular contact with the social partners, the monthly works council was even held on Thursday morning.

ING Belgium refrains from commenting further, such as on the other elements of the criminal complaint.
