The series “Game of Thrones” was a smash hit internationally and a smash hit for producing broadcaster HBO. So it’s not surprising that more projects are planned after the final season 8. In addition to the “House of the Dragon” series starting in the summer, there are many other ideas and possibilities. Most of these revolve around the backstory of the parent series as well, as that comes up a lot in both the books and the series adaptation. However, it has now been announced that HBO is not currently working on another prequel – but on a sequel. The project aims to continue the story of controversial character Jon Snow.
Is there actually a Jon Snow series coming?
The 8th season and thus series finale of “Game of Thrones” was several years ago and the fans’ tempers are still heated. The series didn’t end the way many would have wished. In general, the last two seasons caused displeasure, which was primarily due to the character development. Jon Snow was one of those criticized characters, so he wasn’t high on the list in most theories for future Game of Thrones projects. As the “Hollywood Reporter” reports exclusively, a Jon Snow series is already in the works!
Although the information has not been officially confirmed, the project is not unlikely. In the 8th season of “GoT” Jon Snow, played by Kit Harington, learns that he is a Targaryen and even a potential contender for the Iron Throne. After the events in King’s Landing, however, Jon is banished far north, behind the infamous Wall.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO is planning a live-action series. The broadcaster is currently still in talks with actor Kit Harington, but he could imagine returning for his most famous role to date. Since “Game of Thrones” the British actor has starred in Marvel’s “Eternals”.
If the series, which is currently in the early stages of production, actually comes out, it will be as a sequel. Jon’s story after his banishment from Westeros is then the most likely main subject. The Wildling Tormund, played by Kristofer Hivju, who accompanied Jon behind the wall, could also return. Being sort of a sequel, other surviving characters could also return, such as Jon’s (foster) sister Sansa (Sophie Turner), who is now ruler of the North, and Arya Stark (Maisie Williams).

What’s really remarkable about this news is that HBO is taking the idea in a new direction. House of the Dragon, the only new GoT series secured to date, tells the backstory of Westeros. The focus is on the internal conflicts of House Targaryen, which lay the foundation for the bitter war in “Game of Thrones”. Other planned projects HBOs that the station is working on in the background also deal with the past.
Should a Jon Snow series come as a sequel, that opens the door for other projects that play after the main story. With this, HBO could also take a big step towards fans who would have liked a different ending.
