Influx of Ukrainians: Red Cross is looking for more volunteers | 1Limburg

Red Cross volunteers play an important role in the reception centers of Ukrainians. Due to the influx of refugees, there is a lot of work to be done in those places and extra volunteers are needed in North and Central Limburg.

“For example, to offer a listening ear or to do an initial medical check,” explains Noura Assakkali, Red Cross district manager for North and Central Limburg.

More rest
The Red Cross mainly wants to expand the volunteer base to give people more peace of mind. “The commitment at the shelter locations is long-term. A lot is asked of our volunteers. They check the crisis emergency shelter to see how people are doing and whether they are injured, but they are also involved in the distribution of clothing.”

Before such a volunteer can get started, he or she is first given a course on the rules of the Red Cross. “It is important that people really want to mean something to society. People who participate in crisis emergency care must at least have a first aid diploma.”

festival season
Another reason why the Red Cross wants to expand the volunteer base is the upcoming festival season. “We would like volunteers to be able to be deployed in various places in the coming period. There is no decline in the number of volunteers, but we are dealing with an increase in the number of requests for help.”
