Millions of people follow the culinary adventures of Lina Lutfiawati, also known as Lina Mukherjee, on TikTok. One time she eats fish, other times shrimps and in another video ribs are on the menu.
But after a video with pork, the influencer had to appear in court on September 19 in Palembang, the capital of the Indonesian province of South Sumatra. She was accused of blasphemy and incitement to hatred, as touching or eating pigs is strictly prohibited in the predominantly Muslim country.
Bali
The offending video was shot in March on the island of Bali, where the population is predominantly Hindi. Even before Lina Lutfiawati sinks her teeth into the pork rind in the video, she pronounces the word “bismillah,” which in Arabic means “in the name of Allah.” And apparently you don’t do that with impunity in the country with the largest Muslim population in the world.
