Inflation fell slightly in October to 16.8 percent

Inflation fell to 16.8 percent in October, down 0.3 percentage points from last September. This is apparent from provisional figures published by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Monday based on the European Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).

Compared to last month, the prices of industrial goods, food and services, among other things, have fallen slightly. However, the price of energy, including motor fuels, continued to rise in October. Compared to last year, energy has become 113.8 percent more expensive. In September, it was still 99.8%.

Statistics Netherlands publishes the HICP every month. This is a calculation method with which the inflation figures of the Member States of the European Union can be compared. Inflation of the entire eurozone stood at 10.0 percent in September. At the beginning of November, the statistical office will publish a Dutch calculation of inflation in October: the consumer price index (CPI). The main difference between the calculation methods is the composition of the package of goods and services, the price increases of which are monitored.
