Teacher Ineke Roost (36) of the Pius X College in Bladel was named Music Lecturer of the Year on Monday. The jury finds the teacher very innovative through, among other things, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in class. Ineke finds it especially important that her students have fun. “It is important that students can manifest themselves creatively.”

Ineke received the prize on Monday in the AFAS Live from singer Marco Schuitmaker, this year ambassador of the election. “It is very special to win this title,” says the teacher in the Omroep Brabant radio program Afslag Zuid.

To have a chance, Ineke had to explain the way of teaching in a video clip. Pupils from all over the country were able to vote for the best music teacher, but a jury also bent over the submissions.

Musical province
It became even more clear that Brabant is a musical province. In addition to the Bladel teacher, teacher Paul Wagemakers of the Titus Brandsma Lyceum in Oss and Victor Kerkhof of the Merlet College in Grave were also nominated. Yet only one teacher could be the model and that choice unanimously came out on Ineke.

“She has succeeded in really inspiring her students and takes her students in her passion for music. Her curriculums are creative, current and full of guts – she dares to renew others. Music teachers such as Ineke ensure that music education remains alive, relevant and of great value for the development of young people,” said Frank Helmink, director of Buma, director of Buma, director of Buma..

‘Fun box’
According to Ineke, music is sometimes seen as a fool in high schools. “Fun at school is also very important,” she says. “Music is one of the most important courses at school and one of the few practical subjects between all theory. It is important that students can express themselves creatively and discover music.”

In her lessons, Ineke therefore tries to be mainly concerned with practice. “In recent years there has been a change from theory learning to learn in practice. Students, for example in the final exam year, have to know quite a bit of music, but also play many instruments.”

What kind of music her students play in class, the teacher makes little difference, although she has a clear preference in her spare time. “I like strong rock music,” she laughs. In addition to the award and eternal fame, Ineke received a check of € 1,000.
