Ine Francisconi: “Leading with humility, and not from arrogance, is key to connecting and transcending”

A key virtue in new leadership is humility. The great leaders in the history of humanity, from Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, among others, have been capable of ensuring the common benefit without being distorted towards individual interests; they have closed major social and political cracks in their communities, acknowledging achievement as a team, without expecting applause or personal praise.

On the other hand, a leader wrapped in arrogance and arrogance believes that he knows everything, feels superior to others and, therefore, is closed to listening to different criteria and new proposals; he imposes his gaze, implanting fear and seeking his own benefit. He longs to stand out, win and be applauded. He becomes stingy with information and selfish with his knowledge; he does not share, he does not collaborate, guarding and jealously clinging to his position.

Leadership is service. And service implies humility, openness to listening, willingness to learn, to change and to continuous improvement. A humble leader creates from differences, allows the free expression of ideas, values and manages them wisely; he shares the necessary information and his own knowledge to create together. He knows that the team’s talent is capable of generating a greater work than isolated capacities; For this reason, he generates trust, promotes collaboration to enhance collective intelligence.

The first step towards humility is self-knowledge, valuing your own strengths to enhance them and your weaknesses to transform them; it involves self-respect to set clear and healthy boundaries. It is self-leadership, balance, temperance and empathy in managing one’s own emotions and those of others. It is generosity without humiliating yourself or devaluing your own self-esteem. It is honesty and transparency; It is the path to one’s own greatness.

An authentic leader who genuinely connects from the essence with his collaborators, who inspires trust, respect and coherence, who promotes the development of the maximum potential of the team and recognizes collective achievement, will leave a mark and make his management a memorable piece.

Mahatma Gandhi said: “Try to be so big that everyone wants to reach you, and so humble that everyone wants to be with you.”

Training your socio-emotional skills strengthens this valuable virtue of humility to exercise magnetic, high-impact leadership. It is the call for the leaders of the new world. Are you ready? I am here to accompany you in this challenge.
