Inditex plans to reopen branches in Ukraine

Inditex is preparing to reopen stores in Ukraine.

The Spanish parent company of popular fashion brands such as Zara, Massimo Dutti, Pull & Bear, Stradivarius and Bershka plans to gradually reopen its stores in Ukraine from April 1. Inditex confirmed the plan to FashionUnited on Friday, emphasizing that the opening of stores depends on local market conditions. The priority remains the safety of employees and customers.

According to reports, Inditex is initially planning to reopen around 20 branches in the Kiev area, but the situation is still associated with a lot of uncertainty. A total of 50 of the formerly around 80 branches of the various Inditex brands are expected to reopen in the coming months. The online activities of the Zara parent company should also start again.

Inditex’s operations, both brick-and-mortar and online, were suspended in 2022, shortly after Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. At the same time, operations in the Russian Federation were suspended until further notice and all 502 stores there were closed. At the end of October 2022, Inditex’s entire Russian business was ultimately sold.

Inditex’s move to slowly restart its operations in Ukraine follows a similar decision by H&M several months. The Swedish fashion group began slowly reopening its stores in November 2023.
