News: How was the project for the Indiscreet Look series created and developed?

Marcela Citterio: I was assailed at dawn by that idea of what happens when one spies and manages to get into a foreign world. From there, I developed it and discussed it with the manager of Netflix in Los Angeles in 2019. The classic cycle begins where you present the project, the committee has to like it and all those steps until they give you the green light. As soon as they give it to me, I work with my team who were Claudia Morales and Melisa Milanesi, and there we were establishing each of these steps. But they tell me that they are not going to do it for Mexico, which was planned, but for Brazil. I was invaded by a great illusion because it is a new door in my career. Entering Netflix Brazil, as an Argentine author, generated great emotion and a challenge for me, based on the concept of giving a very feminine look to all this.

News: What points did you want to highlight in the narrative, in terms of the plot and its characters?

Citterio: I was very interested in how this woman managed to be part of these lives that were more interesting than her own. From being a voyeur, a passive spectator, she begins to make decisions and get involved by coming out of hiding. The difficulties that each one of us can have, as women, who do not face different types of inhibitions typical of many years of other types of thought. And that something that can be, from a totally passive role, can be taken a step further. Talking about issues like prostitution, human trafficking, consent, all of that seemed to me to be in a language with an eroticism that I feel justified and very attractive.

News: What did you discover in the adaptation of the Brazilian perspective on sex and eroticism?

Citterio: More than an adaptation was a translation. What I rescue is that what she proposed from the book, about sexual parties or what she observes, they were encouraged to much more. They were encouraged to film with total freedom, to show their bodies. Some are very hegemonic and others that are not, with a sexuality and sensuality that are extremely interesting and salvageable. More in this world in which she brings so many problems to women on the subject of eating disorders and the perfect body. From everything she proposed they were encouraged to do more.

News: in your future book Lady Voyeur What differences will we find in the history of the series and that of the field of literature?

Citterio: What I am interested in exploring in the field of literature is that I get much more into the thought and actions of Miranda, who is the protagonist. She is the one who carries out the entire story of the book. There is nothing to distract you from the female character. In a series you require other characters and secondary stories. In this case, it’s all through her eyes. We are talking about a protagonist with a voyeurism dependency issue that is not magically cured, it is something she must deal with like any type of addiction. The book is going to have some erotic illustrations, I really like to bring the image to the book also in some artistic way.

News: What did you think of the casting of the Brazilian cast?

Citterio: I found it excellent and dreamed. Her, her antagonist, and the main four all seemed brilliant to me. Miranda much more, her character is very difficult for you to want to hug her and she succeeded. Without an imbalance, she worked it naturally and with magical beauty. It is not very common, what they choose is not always what you imagined, but in this case she gave herself and surpassed me. That’s what I find amazing. There are as many types of possibilities as each one does.

News: What is the editorial proposal of The Orlando Books when generating fictions that can become audiovisual?

Citterio: The editorial content seemed extremely interesting to me that it was immediately linked to the audiovisual. Reading the book, you can imagine what the potential movie, series, audiobook, podcast or any of the new formats that are coming will be like, as a result of any artistic content. Not only bring my stories closer. I was inspired by my daughter, who is a writer, who, when she finished her first book, did not know how she was going to show herself. It seemed to me much more adaptable to take the proposal to the producers and to the platforms through the publication of the book, the content is adapted already knowing how the story begins and ends.
