A more or less secret star of Gamescom is always the smaller indie studios. There, gaming fans can discover new titles away from the big names. You should keep an eye on these games.
At Gamescom in 2023, the big names in the games sector will again be handing each other over. This year, after the corona-related lull, bigger names are back at the start. But many also come because of the Indie Arena Booth, the large area on the exhibition grounds where the smaller indie studios explicitly present their current games. Interested parties can always discover little treasures there, which on the one hand are extremely entertaining and on the other hand often cost less money than the big AAA titles. TECHBOOK is on site at Gamescom and gives an overview of which indie games you should take a closer look at at the trade fair – and of course also beyond.
What is the Indie Arena Booth?
The fact that the majority of games at Gamescom come from smaller indie studios is nothing new. And this year, too, the announced lineup is impressive in terms of size alone. Almost 160 games are currently listed. 154 studios from 30 different countries are said to be involved.
The palette of content ranges across all genres in a colorful mix. Jump ‘n’ run titles are just as represented as role or strategy games. Indie games are usually characterized by a particularly creative approach, an unusually imaginative story or other loving little details and are therefore very popular with gamers.
The Indie Arena Booth can be found in Hall 10 at Gamescom 2023 and, like the rest of the show, opens on August 23rd.
