Indian former politician and his brother shot dead on live television

Former Indian politician Atiq Ahmed was shot dead in the northern city of Prayagraj on Saturday night. This is reported by international news agencies. While 60-year-old Ahmed, who was himself a suspect in a murder case, was walking to the hospital under police escort, he was shot in the head at close range. His brother Ashraf was also killed. The murder was shown live on television.

Ahmed was known in the criminal environment. Earlier he was convicted of kidnapping, now Ahmed was suspected of murder and assault, among other things. The police picked up the brothers on Saturday evening for a mandatory medical checkup. In front of the hospital, the handcuffed pair spoke to journalists, who broadcasted the interview live. During the conversation, the brothers were shot in the head.

Three suspects were arrested immediately after the murder. According to bystanders they posed as journalists to get close to the brothers, and shouted cries of Hindu nationalists after firing their guns.
