India announces bid for 2036 Olympics

Poland had previously indicated a possible application with its capital Warsaw. The country failed in the race for the Winter Games in 2006 with Zakopane and in 2022 with Krakow. Together with Ukraine, Poland hosted the 2012 European Football Championship and the 2022 European Games in Krakow-Malopolska.

Germany is also considering another attempt to bring the Olympic Games to the country after 1936 (Berlin/summer and Garmisch-Partenkirchen/winter) and 1972 (Munich/summer). However, the prerequisite is broad social support, which is currently being explored.

Five German cities and regions have expressed interest

Candidates would be conceivable for the Summer Games in 2036 or 2040 as well as for the Winter Games in 2038 or 2042. Five cities and regions have expressed interest in organizing: Berlin, Hamburg, Munich (with Bavaria), Leipzig (with Saxony) and North Rhine-Westphalia. The DOSB would enter the race with a minimum of two and a maximum of four locations.

Possible other international applicants for 2036 include Istanbul, Qatar and Mexico City. The next three Summer Games have been awarded to Paris (2024), Los Angeles (2028) and Brisbane (2032), and the next Winter Olympics will take place in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo in 2026.
