Families, colleagues and classmates of the victims of the tragic accident in Chaam are still deeply upset. Two children (almost 1 and 4 years old) died in the accident. Their mother and her third child were seriously injured.
The woman is still seriously injured in hospital, as is her third child, who according to the police is ‘under five years’. It is unclear how they are now.
‘Indescribably great loss’
On Thursday there are several obituaries in the local weeklies of Altena, the municipality where the victims come from. The suffering in the predominantly Christian community is great.
“We are very sad, the loss is incomprehensible,” write the grandfathers, grandmothers, great-grandparents and other family members. Other members of the community also express their condolences in the weekly magazines Het Kontakt – Altena and Altena Nieuws.
“We have no words for the indescribable great sadness that has affected you,” writes a company in an advertisement addressed to the relatives. The children’s school also writes in an advertisement that it is ‘shocked and intensely sad’ after the death of their group 1 student and his younger brother. The school wishes the family strength in this ‘unfathomable grief’.
There is also a prominent place in the obituaries for the faith of the next of kin and the victims. “We believe that they may be together in heaven, where there is no more pain or sorrow.”
