The match started no less than an hour and a half later than planned. The area surrounding the stadium was affected by a power outage, as a result of which the artificial light around the playing field in the Ernst Happel Stadium could not be switched on.
But what stood out most of all was a huge hole in the middle of the field. It caused astonishment among the Danes. “The exact circumstances are currently being investigated, but we suspect a connection with the enormous rainfall from the night before,” the Austrian federation said. BT†

National coach Kasper Hjulmand also speaks of it as a shame. “What a misery. I’ve seen the photos and videos of a huge, huge hole in the middle of the field. It was dangerous for the players. This hole was absolutely terrible.”
The sinkhole is the size of a foot. During the match, the players tried to avoid the gap. “This has got to be better. Someone’s career could have been over after today,” Andreas Skov Olsen told TV2†
