A circular bicycle every year

Casparis describes BikeFlip as a ‘sustainable subscription to a circular children’s bike’. For a monthly amount, ranging from 3 to 15 euros, the child always gets a new bicycle. “Parents and children come back to us every year to ‘flip’ the bike for a larger one. We use second -hand models for this that we redecorate in our workshop. ”

According to Casparis, a child needs a new size bicycle every year. “There are nine sizes of children’s bicycles. Parents who do not use our subscription often skip a few sizes. Logical, because otherwise it will cost you a few hundred euros annually. ” The range of BikeFlip starts with walking bikes for the little ones and ends with 28 inch bikes for twelve-year-olds.

Repair service at home

The idea for BikeFlip arose four years ago, during Casparis’ Master’s study Sustainable Business and Innovation at the University of Utrecht. “We had to come up with a fictional start-up in groups. The reactions to our plan were so good that I decided to put it into practice. We now have around forty employees. “

The team includes bicycle makers, who redecorate second -hand bicycles and drive along subscribers for the repair service. “We visit Utrecht within 48 hours in our electric bus to repair leaky tires and broken bikes. For most children it is their transport to school, so there is almost behind it. “

With BikeFlip you get a bike that grows with the length of your child. You choose a new size bicycle online and an employee brings the bike to your home. The old bicycle goes back to the storage in Utrecht. There the bike is prepared for the next happy child.

BikeFlip works together with, among other things, cycle chains to collect second -hand bicycles.
