Iltalehti’s jury found out in a blind test which of the seven most common chocolate ice creams in stores is the best.
Eating ice cream doesn’t look at the weather. Ice cream is eaten more in Finland than in any other European country.
Chocolate is one of the most common ice cream flavors. Chocolate ice cream lovers have plenty of choice in stores. We chose Iltalehti’s jury to taste the seven most common liters of chocolate ice cream in stores.
The tasting jury consisted of four journalists from Iltalehti. The tasting of the ice creams was performed blindly, without ice cream packaging. The evaluation criteria were the ice cream’s taste, texture, aroma, chocolate and surprisingness.
In the tasting competition, we found out one ice cream that everyone clearly liked, but it wasn’t the overwhelming winner.
In the comparison, however, it became clear which ice cream clearly got the fewest points. It was Pingviini Lempää Sklaa ice cream, which is also the cheapest of the ice creams in the test.
Bon Gelati Premium chocolate ice cream from the Lidl brand was chosen as the best chocolate ice cream in the comparison. The jury described it as the most chocolaty ice cream in the comparison.
No less than three ice creams got the second place in a closely divided second place: Pirkka ice cream Suklaakimara, Aino Ihana milk chocolate ice cream and Rainbow Suklaa White chocolate ice cream, which the jury rated as equally good.

1. Bon Gelati Premium Ice Cream Chocolate
Grade 8
The price is 3.85 euros.
– Really chocolatey. The bits feel a bit bad.
– Strong cocoa scent. Richly chipped and really chocolatey ice cream. You could add a whipped cream flower or strawberries on top. I like it.
– This has a strong and dark taste. Chocolate. Minus became small. The structure is nice here.
– Creamy and smoky. Even the coffee tastes good here. For adult taste. This is a Mövenpick that is trying to be “premium”.
2. (in second place) Pirkka cream ice cream Chocolate ice cream
Grade 7.5
Price about 4.39.
– This is colorful. It contained too many chocolate rolls, but it was perfectly functional.
– Good and sweet. There should be less sauce. Not at all surprising.
– Smooth and pleasant ice cream with a beautiful shine. This has a strong and good aftertaste. This is a clear dessert ice cream and is what it promises, namely chocolate ice cream.
– This has been given freshness with vanilla. It’s sweet enough. The chocolate chips should be left out. I was excited at first, but in the end I’m disappointed.
2. (tied for second place) Aino Ihana milk chocolate cream ice cream
Grade 7.5
The price is about 5.89 euros.
– Better and fuller than the previous one. This is suitably chocolatey.
– This is balanced and ok. Still a bit too sugary. Good bits.
– A little too sweet. Clear chocolate vein.
– The familiar taste of chocolate ice cream. Good chocolate taste and texture. Smells good.
2. (tied for second place) Rainbow Chocolate White chocolate ice cream
Grade 7.5
The price is 3.65 euros.
– Sweet and really good ice cream. There’s more to this than just chocolate.
– Artificial smoke flavor. Not attractive. Can fit into one dessert ball.
– Ice cream doesn’t convince me, but it’s OK. This is like a copy of the previous ice cream. I don’t know which is a copy of which.
– This is good. It tasted like chocolate. I’ll continue. Like a McDonalds Ice Cream Sundae.
3. Ingman Creamy Chocolate marshmallow
Grade 6
The price is about 5.75 euros.
– The marshmallow was a bit of a useless addition to this. But functional, yes I could eat this!
– “Slimy” marshmallow, was not good. They have tried mixing air into this, and the taste resembled “artificial gourmet” ice cream.
– Lovely smell, basic good but the chocolate taste is missing, doesn’t help the chocolate hunger. It would help even if you’re hungry.
– This is basic and will not be remembered. There is a lot of extra “bull” here.
4. Jymy Milk chocolate ice cream
Grade 5
The price is about 4.99 euros.
– This has a strong taste and too much of everything.
– I would not buy. This is not for adult taste, but for minor taste. This is an ugly color and has a lead and artificial taste.
– The ice cream has a messy texture and you forget the taste of the ice cream. This has forgotten to be ice cream.
– Nice cookie-like balls, but the taste of this one was strange. This had all the fun, but no sophistication.
5. Penguin Gentle Chocolate
Grade 4.5
The price is about 3.19 euros.
– Strange color and dull taste. Probably suitable for a special diet. I would freeze this myself.
– It had a mild taste and a strange smell. The smell reminded me of a barn. Milky, like a frozen chocolate milkshake. If someone doesn’t like the taste of chocolate, they might like this.
– Boring. Doesn’t offer anything, and doesn’t taste like anything.
– Pretty cool. The chocolate taste is only in the sauce.
