Beijing (AP) – The Ukrainian delegation demonstrated before the opening ceremony of the Paralympics in Beijing in the stadium tunnel with posters and songs for peace.
A video distributed to the media by the federation itself shows athletes lining up behind a placard that reads “Stop War Peace for Ukraine.” Then they loudly sing “Peace for Ukraine”. Numerous athletes from other nations followed the scenery, applauded and hugged their colleagues.
Because of the war in Ukraine, invader Russia and supporters Belarus were banned from the Beijing games. The Ukrainian delegation arrived in China with 20 athletes and a total of 54 people, but was on the road for four days and nights under the most difficult conditions.
