Significantly fewer people came to the shopping streets of major German cities during the warning strike on Monday. In a random sample analysis for the German Press Agency, the provider of frequency data Hystreet.com determined an average decrease of 27.7 percent in the period up to 1 p.m. on a total of 33 road sections examined in 20 cities compared to Monday a week ago. The bad weather could possibly have played a role.
The random sample revealed clear differences between and sometimes within the cities examined. There was a particularly strong downward trend in Munich, Stuttgart, Hanover, Dortmund and partly in Cologne and Düsseldorf with changes in one dimension of 40 percent. (dpa)
