In the NHL playoffs, completely exceptional goals

The NHL playoffs have so far seen a confusing amount of goals.

The most interesting game of the day

There have been more goals scored in the NHL playoffs this spring than in men’s memory.

So far, 184 goals, or 6.57 per match, have been conceded in actual games. Compared to the playoff averages of recent years, the number is appalling.

From the 2013–2014 season to the present day, the richest playoff spring was available in 2018, when the average goal per match was as wild as 5.76 goals per match. So now we go almost to the goal per match at a tougher pace.

One of the quarterfinals in the quarterfinals this spring is Washington and Florida, with 19 cups so far in the first three matches (6.33 / game). The matches between Washington and Florida have been pretty bizarre anyway, but let’s get back to that soon.

The number of goals scored today can be compared quite conveniently to the goals expected in matches (how many goals in that match “should have been” based on the events and shots in each case). What is expected of the earth is always roughening, and no truth of God.

This season, 185 goals have been scored in the playoffs, so the realization is really good. So the matches have indeed been exceptionally rich in character and events. The reasons for this abundance can be found in the teams’ playing methods, match pairs and this time also in the level of the goalkeepers.

Of last night’s match-only pairs, only the Dallas-Calgary series has seen “traditional” playoff hockey – that is, a low-key and tactical game aimed at keeping one from the finish line (3.3 goals per match).

The generosity of the Colorado-Nashville series (7.0 goals per match) is explained by both the Colorado Fire Force and Nashville’s No. 1 goalkeeper Juuse Saroksen absence due to injury. Now also the number one in Colorado Darcy Kuemperin playing is uncertain when the goalkeeper caught his eye in the last game.

Part of the reason for the generosity of the Pittsburgh – NY Rangers series can also be found in Pittsburgh’s goalkeeper problems when both Tristan Jarry that second Casey DeSmith are out of strength due to injuries.

In addition to a purely weaker defensive power, the absence of the best goalkeepers also affects both teams ’self-confidence and playing habits.

For the Colorado – Nashville and Pittsburgh – NY Rangers series, I am not taking a view at this point of a reduction in the number of goals, although this may be the case when the series is cut and settled.

Instead, the most interesting thing about betting is to speculate on the number of goals in the Washington-Florida series – especially in relation to the number of goals offered, which are now very heavily at the top.

The previous two matches in Washington and Florida have been very special in terms of their events and goals. In the second game, Florida won 5-1 at home, even though they were basically in the bottom line in the game, both playfully and statistically. In the triple game, Washington, on the other hand, smashed Florida 6-1 at home, although in the name of honesty he did not attack anything in the match (the shots went to Washington 31-30 and the goal was 2.7-2.1). To top it off, the only thing Washington did well in that game was to mess up the Florida offensive game.

In all of the first three matches, Florida hasn’t looked really ready for the playoffs. Fighting gaming is scarce, and offensive gaming in particular seems to have lost all its automation and rhythm.

It’s a little hard to see as a head coach in the playoffs completely inexperienced Andrew Brunetten now able to suddenly open all nodes in Florida.

Although Washington is not at its best and is not playing good hockey at all right now, Florida is still forced to be overvalued in the fourth match, when Veikkaus, for example, has placed it in the favorite position on a 3.15 / 4.50 / 1.90 scale.

While betting on the winner, the best searches for this match will still be found off the edge of Washington. Overall, however, one can expect Brunette to try to improve first and foremost in his team’s defensive play after six goals scored.

While Washington’s best help is in stifling Florida’s offensive play, I myself wouldn’t be a huge surprise if the fourth encounter with these teams wasn’t particularly generous anymore.

Washington – Florida starts at 2:27 p.m.

The best bet of the day

In terms of betting, Veikkaus promises a virtually top-of-the-line odds of 1.91 for a Washington-Florida match of less than 6.5 goals. Personally, I find this too high a bid. My odds limit for goals below 6.5 is 1.85.

Let’s take it underia contrary to the trend, even with a little risk all the way to the line.

Games of the day: Washington – Florida, under 6.5 goals (odds 1.91).
