The Netherlands is preparing for the storm that hits the country on Friday. Storm Eunice is expected to hit the region by mid-afternoon. This should be accompanied by gusts of wind of up to 120 kilometers per hour. Especially at the end of the afternoon and at the beginning of the evening it will be very turbulent. The Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI) has issued the code red for the coastal provinces and the Wadden area.
Some shops are closing their doors earlier as a precaution. In Rotterdam, for example, Hema and H&M are using notices on the doors to inform their customers that they will be closed today due to the storm, reports AD newspaper. The fashion retailer Terstal announced on Facebook that the planned shopping evening on Friday will not take place.
Although some stores remain open, there is not much going on in the shopping streets. KNMI urges people not to go outside unless they have to. Many people follow this call. Train services stopped at 2 p.m. and many schools and universities closed earlier.
Northern Germany expects second hurricane
In the north of Germany, meanwhile, hurricane low “Zeynep” follows “Ylenia”. It is the second hurricane within two days in northern Germany, reports the NDR. The German Weather Service warns of strong gusts of wind.
In Germany, too, there will be restrictions on local and long-distance traffic. According to the website, Deutsche Bahn is gradually phasing out rail traffic in northern Germany. In Rostock, among other things, the zoo closes at 4 p.m. However, there are currently no known restrictions or changed opening hours in retail.
