In the footsteps of her father: Pauline Van Marcke will soon take the oath as alderman in Anzegem
Pauline Van Marcke received the most preference votes in the elections after the current mayor Gino Devogelaere. But she focused on her studies first. Now she is eager to get started: “I actually waited four years for it, because the mandate was split.”
Five years ago, very unexpectedly, her father, then mayor Claude Van Marcke, died. He was barely 48 years old. “My father was a mayor for everyone, for everyone Anzegem to and that’s something I really want to take into my own political career. A full agenda, just like her father’s, but he did have his priorities. “He had a very busy schedule, but if my brother or I needed him, everything had to make way for us. “I still wear his perfume almost every day, still. So wherever I go, he’s with me.”
She does not rule out mayoral ambitions: “Step by step, it’s a question you can ask me again next year.” (continue reading below the photo)
Not only a new alderman tonight in Anzegem, by the way, but also a new council chamber. For the first time, the city council has its seat in the new municipal point on the old textile site Escolys.
