The district of Goslar wants to support the worldwide vaccination campaign of the World Health Organization with a curious fundraiser.
As district administrator Alexander Saipa (SPD) announced on Monday, the value of a corona vaccination should symbolically come together for each participant in the so-called walks against the corona measures and a general vaccination requirement. This form of silent protest is intended to underline that the majority of the population supports corona vaccinations.
Most recently, according to district spokesman Maximilian Strache, around 600 people in the city of Goslar demonstrated against the Corona rules and the possible introduction of nationwide compulsory vaccination. Demonstrations also took place in other towns in the district.
Saipa hopes that the equivalent of 4.50 euros will be donated for each demonstration participant, which would roughly correspond to the cost of a vaccination. “As a result, anyone who opposes vaccination would involuntarily become a vaccination sponsor.” The money is to go to the international vaccination campaign Covax, which aims to give people in poor countries access to corona vaccines.

Saipa said the model was a similar fundraising campaign by a citizens’ initiative in the municipality of Ofterdingen in Baden-Württemberg. By the end of March, the number of demonstrators will be used to determine weekly how many vaccinations the participants have symbolically received.
