Rapper Gettomasa’s concert at last year’s Himos midsummer festival even turned into chaos at the back of the tent stage, when not everyone who wanted to could watch the Finnish rapper’s performance.

This time, the rapper performed on the main stage of the event. The solution was right, because this time too there were spectators in the area up to its edges.

Gettomasa’s popularity seems downright phenomenal in Himos. During the performance, the security fences rattled, shoes and shirts flew into the air, the spectators caused a headache for the security guards by climbing on each other’s shoulders. The audience sings every song word for word – whether it’s a chart hit or a slightly more unknown song.

– Maybe something has been done right, Gettomasa commented to Iltalehti after the gig.

There was no lack of entertainment in the rapper’s performance. During the gig, he opened a bottle of whiskey and circulated it among the other rappers sitting on the stage. The last bet On a champagne diet during the stage several sparkling ones were spectacularly popped into the air.

– Hip hop in general is brash and unapologetic. When I come here on stage, that’s the attitude I also want to represent. It’s the same attitude as ten years ago, when I represented in some small corner pub and there was a rap event.

– Ten years from now, when I come here to Himos, the attitude will remain the same, says Gettomasa.

US Billboard published an article this month that said rap has not done as badly in the last 30 years as it did this year. There are many different reasons for rap’s decline in popularity.

Gettomasa believes that international winds have no effect on the popularity of Finnish rap.

– I would dare to say that there are probably more than 30 Finnish rap songs on the Finnish top 50 list even at the moment. I would say that the situation is the opposite in Finland at the moment, Gettomasa assures.

Among other things, the one published at the beginning of June speaks for the rapper After all -song’s chart position. The song has ruled the top of the Finnish top 50 list, eclipsing even Käärijä’s tens of millions of megahits Cha Cha Cha.

Gettomasa’s best-known songs include, among others On a champagne diet, Irresistible and The eyes. Gettomasa won three Emma awards at the beginning of this year.
