The Jokerit, aiming for the ice hockey SM league, has attracted attention in Finland’s neighboring countries. Now a Swedish puck influencer Szymon Szemberg took on Twitter carries the Jokers to the KHL and from there to the return to their home country.
Szemberg pointed out that participation in the KHL has been the downfall of many foreign clubs.
– In addition to moral issues, many warned about the KHL, which has no sustainable business model. Everything will turn into a financial disaster. That’s what happened to Medvescak Zagreb, Slovan Bratislava, Riga Dinamo, Lev Praha and the Jokers.
Szemberg plays a leading role in the Union of European Hockey Leagues. He also says that he came up with the concept of the Three Gold Club.
– The KHL was never a sports project. It was intended to increase the soft power of Russia and Putin. Non-Russian teams were used as tools for that. The clubs that were on the verge of bankruptcy were then pushed aside like a dish rag by the KHL.
The Jokerit jacket has swelled massively since the end of summer. This week, the SM League announced that the Jokerit will not return to the League in the 2023–24 season.
