The Italian luxury fashion house Prada has the second edition of the “Pradasphere” opened at the Start Museum in Shanghai.
The public exhibition traces the history of the fashion brand from its beginnings in 1913 to the present day with more than 400 artifacts. The second “Pradasphere” was created in collaboration with New York and Beijing-based design studio 2×4 and was curated by co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons, the luxury label said in a statement.
The exhibition is staged as a warehouse – the main aisle shows almost 200 looks from all of the fashion house’s previous women’s and men’s collections. The mannequins are lined up in long industrial storage shelves lined with pink velvet. Individual rooms lead off the main corridor and are dedicated to special topics and various episodes in the history of the house.
The ‘Materiality’ room presents twenty previously unreleased skirts created exclusively for the exhibition and intended to reflect the craftsmanship of the Prada workshop.
Twenty bags from the Prada archive are on display in the ‘vitrine’, whose silhouettes have shaped the image of the brand. The ‘Green Store’ shows a chronological overview of the fashion house’s most famous shoe models.
As with that first Pradasphere at Harrods in London and Hong Kong almost ten years ago, the second edition also includes a Pradasphere café. Decorated in velvet and marble, the café has large projection screens on which exhibition and presentation rooms from recent years can be seen.
The exhibition in Shanghai is rounded off by two historic train carriages next to the museum, which contain a gift shop and a workshop area. The “Pradasphere” is open to visitors free of charge until January 21, 2024.
