In pictures: honoring Olympic ice queen Irene Schouten in Wervershoof

For two weeks, Wervershoof was dominated by one woman: speed skater Irene Schouten. And she lived up to her favorite role. She returned from the Beijing Olympics with three golds and one bronze. Today she was honored.

the tribute started with a platform scene on the Raadhuisplein in Wervershoof, followed by a tour in an open car through the village. In the video above you can see how the West Frisian village cheered the 29-year-old long track skater.
