In pictures: Enkhuizen celebrates 450 years of liberation from the Spaniards

Today, Enkhuizen has extensively remembered that 450 years ago, on May 21, 1572, it liberated itself from the Spanish rulers. There were several events, the highlight of course being the historical scenes that were reenacted.

And the uprising was also relived. The situation in Enkhuizen had escalated after the rulers wanted Spanish soldiers in the city. An armed group moved towards the town hall, but in the end the uprising was over without bloodshed† And with that, Enkhuizen was one of the first cities to join the Geuzen and Willem van Oranje.

In addition, there was also a lecture by Klaas Koeman, chairman of the historical association Oud Enkhuizen. In the Zuiderkerk he gave text and explanations about the revolt for many interested parties.
