Since she was a child, she has always liked the plastic arts and all her activity was linked to them, in one way or another. “My beginnings in art, as a way of life, she was when she left school, when she was 17 or 18 years old. I had always liked painting and started making bijou and starting my first paintings in order to sell them. He also sold clothes to acquaintances to be able to pay for some things and give me some treats. Later, with the passage of time, I began to face it more seriously and take pleasure in having my business. I understood that I had to undertake something that I was passionate about and, the truth is, art is what I am passionate about. So I really enjoy undertaking and that art is involved, ”says Florencia El Jaouhari, plastic artist and teacher in her own workshop.
– What is your main source of inspiration and how do you turn an idea into a work?
When creating, nature is my first inspiration for the variety of tones that I can get. I paint everything I see and put my stamp on it. I am always looking for new techniques and incorporating new materials, as well as different places to capture them. At first, I started with canvas, but then I felt the need to expand and now I really enjoy making murals, which inspires me a lot. I also like to learn new things. Right now, I’m in a pottery class. I am convinced that you always have to be on the lookout for new things where I can leave my mark; but I also think it’s about capturing the essence of things.
– What techniques do you prefer or feel more comfortable working with?
The techniques I use is oil on canvas. I paint with a spatula and brushes and I usually use new techniques to give a change to the works, adding relief and shine, such as gold foil, for example.
– Is there a style that you feel best defines you?
I have a modern style and I am always interested in reflecting the movement and essence of colors. I was evolving in this sense. It’s funny, my first piece was a fruit set, a still life piece! I am convinced that everything depends on the life that is given to the work. Today, I try to make my work reflect living nature, in movement and evolution. The message I want to convey is simplicity.
– Do you have any routine that is necessary to trigger creativity every day in front of a canvas?
Start my morning dedicating an important time to find inspiration for my next paintings. It is something that I like to do at the beginning of the day and I give it a lot of importance. After that, only then do I feel in a position to start the creative process. But inspiration is not exclusive to the morning. It has also happened to me that some nights I am inspired and I stay up late, brush in hand.
– How do you market your works, do you do it through social networks?
Yes, mainly. After the pandemic, I started selling them through social networks, although word of mouth is also an important source. I also work with referred businesses that sell my works and galleries that have them in their catalogues.
– What are your projects in the medium and long term?
I design my future every day. I am always looking to renew myself, to design new things. For example, this year by adding ceramics classes to my day to apply my designs on tableware, I am incorporating the possibility of a different support that allows a lot of creativity. I am opening my showroom together with colleagues and I also want to move to a larger space to teach my painting classes. Next year we would like to open a comprehensive art school.
