Rainer Hoffmann calls for speed limits to save ‘every drop of gasoline’ in Germany

In Germany, you can temporarily limit the speed on the roads: up to 100 km / h on autobahns and up to 30 km / h in cities. This measure is designed to reduce energy consumption amid high prices, said the head of the Association of German Trade Unions

To save energy consumption, you can introduce a temporary speed limit on German roads: up to 100 km/h on highways and up to 30 km/h in cities. Such a proposal voiced Head of the Association of German Trade Unions Rainer Hoffmann in an interview with Hamburger Abendblatt.

“We need to save every drop of gasoline that we can save,” he stressed.

At the same time, Hoffman acknowledged that this would not solve the overall problem of rising energy prices. According to him, energy security can be achieved primarily through the expansion of the network of renewable sources. In addition, Hoffman believes, a number of measures should be taken in the social sphere in order to reduce the burden on the population.

Earlier, German Economy Minister Robert Habek said that Germany plans to become independent of Russian energy resources this year. He argued that Germany could abandon Russian coal by the fall of 2022, and oil by the end of the year. At the same time, Habek admitted that it would be more difficult to get rid of dependence on Russian gas, since Germany does not have its own capacities for importing LNG.
